Geographical Range of the Hairy-Nosed Otter
This is from Wright et al (2008), which reviews historical information and gives recent sightings.
It appears that this species has always inhabited suitable habitat in south-east Asia, and that their range has contracted dramatically in recent decades. Today they are very rare, and only found in a handful of isolated locations in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Sumatra. The known range shown in the map is greatly exaggerated as otherwise the range markers would be too small to see. The contraction of the range is obvious, and the isolation of the populations can clearly be seen.
